CCAA’s Demo Artist, Feb. 26: Julia Munger Seelos

On Monday, Feb. 26, Julia Munger Seelos will offer an oil painting demonstration of painting animals alla prima. The artist is trying to capture in paint, the shapes, colors and textures that make the subject special in a more direct way than a typical studio piece. The experience of painting with oils in this way can be both rewarding and frustrating. A few basic principles coupled with a sense of adventure will arm the artist with the tools to express their subject in a fresher way.

Julia will cover her set-up and equipment. Using practiced steps to facilitate speed she will cover the basics of composition and color theory and how she approaches the painting.

Julia studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, Industrial Design at the University of Cincinnati and received her BA in Illustration at San Jose State. She traveled the world managing an international retail; design team creating everything from souvenir products to designer shops.

Julia is regularly invited to participate in the west’s most prestigious Plein Air events including: the Carmel Art Festival, Estes Park Colorado- Paint the Parks, Los Gatos, Easton Maryland, Sedona, Sonoma and Zion National Park. Her award winning paintings have been selected for numerous national exhibitions with the American Impressionist Society, California Art Club, Triton Art Museum, Steinbeck Museum, Wilding Museum National Parks Show, Epperson Gallery Sierras Exhibition 2016 and the Napa Valley Museum Plein Air Biennial.

Memberships include the American Impressionist Society, Signature Member; Laguna Plein Air Painters Association; Monterey Bay Plein Air Painters Association, Signature Member; California Art Club.
