CCAA’s Demo Artist, Mar. 26: Maggie Renner Hellman

On Monday, March 26th, Maggie Renner Hellmann will offer a painting demonstration and discuss some of the various considerations and approaches to Color in painting. She will discuss Color in terms of Hue, Value, Intensity and Temperature and how to harness that color energy through awareness and usage of contrasts. There are many color choices available to the painter, Maggie will discuss some of the various methodologies used in Realism, Tonalism and Modern painting.

After deciding art was her path very early on, Maggie studied art at every opportunity she could, intensively through a charter high school in Miami, Florida. Maggie earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Illustration and Design with Honors at San Jose State University. Maggie studied Intensive Life Painting at the Lorenzo de’ Medici Art Institute in Florence, Italy; and several Workshops with Master Colorists and Painters, Ovanes Berberian, Calvin Liang, and Ray Roberts.

Maggie is a long time Santa Cruz painter and workshop teacher, locally and abroad currently in Tuscany, Italy. Her award-winning paintings are exhibited and sold internationally.  Maggie’s work is characterized by a unique blend of loose, energetic brushwork painted with bravado, and strong compositions of exuberant color. She has painted and won awards in multiple juried and invitational plein air events and shows in the western US. Maggie is classically trained and a full-time professional artist, and has been painting for over 45 years. Painting shown: “Heart of Cinque Terra, Italy”
