CCAA’s Demo Artist, Oct.22: Cynthia Davis

October’s artist demonstration will be Takbon printmaking presented by Cynthia Davis. Takbon is a traditional Korean technique for transferring the textures of objects onto paper. It is similar to rubbing, but instead of using friction and a crayon, an inked dauber is tapped on the surface of the paper. This more gentle method captures fine details and allows for the grouping of different objects in a single composition. Natural objects, such as leaves, flat seashells, and large feathers, can be used as well as coins, buttons, keys, textured ceramic tiles, providing a variety of things to work with.

Cynthia Davis’s artistic education has been chiefly self-directed.  While living in Palo Alto, California she studied at community art centers and programs at the state university. Later, during her travels in Italy she was introduced to artist and Franciscan Padre Diego Donati, who became her printmaking teacher. Further studies at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice and Florida Atlantic University completed her graphics education.
