Laureen Weaver

Born in Alberta, Canada, I moved to San Diego, California in 1987 and recently to Carmel-by-the-Sea in 2014. I work in acrylic and oil mediums with various themes: landscape, skyscapes, wine, contemporary, still life, horses and golf courses. Although primarily a self-taught painter, I have been a student of Irina Johnson (acrylic), Toni Williams (oil) and Karen McGraw (oil & watercolor).
In 1984, I received a Business Administration Degree majoring in Marketing at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. After visiting San Diego with college friends, I decided the weather was more enjoyable in San Diego than Alberta. At age 24, I moved to the San Diego, California to start a small fitness company teaching fitness to corporate clients. In 1987, went into real estate for 30+ years, working for builders of master plan communities, high end luxury resale and consulting.
My art career didn’t started until 2009 when the real estate market slowed, and I actually had time to do something other than real estate. My first art trip was with an art group to the south of France, which was life changing. After returning, I worked to improve my art whenever I could, which never seemed to be enough time. I came up with an idea to have art shows in vacant open houses to attract visitors. After each sale, the paintings were gifted to the new home owner and their families. Also, I was involved with many charities with my art to raise money for the local community.
Now that I am living in Monterey Peninsula, I hope to develop my art even more. It’s such a magical and inspiration place. Every corner inspires one to paint! It such a beautiful and magical place.
